Global warming in a narrow sense refers to a widely accepted interpretation of scientific data that average temperatures over the surface of planet Earth have increased over the past century. When used in a wider sense, the term links this recent warming, with somewhat less agreement, to human activities as a cause and dire climactic and geographical changes as consequences.

Al Gore, opponent of global warming, won the Nobel Peace Prize, even though more people have died of the cold than of heat!
